Although we’ve recently seen the last of Twisted Sister, their front man remains an irrepressible force in the music business- and this is seen clearly through his latest solo release We Are The Ones. Dee Snider’s somewhat individualistic personality is conveyed throughout this album- We Are The Ones is without question a solo record. The only factor linking Snider’s latest solo effort and Twisted Sister is the cover of the Twisted hit “We’re Not Gonna Take It” which appears on this album backed by only a piano and Snider’s powerful vocals.
The title track along with “Crazy For Nothing” are arguably the anthems on the album; both songs are upbeat and commanding, making you want to do nothing but sing along. The album also includes a cover of Nine Inch Nails’ “Head Like a Hole”, an interesting addition to the album that is done fairly similarly to the original but still has aspects of Snider laced throughout it. Although We Are The Ones is a pretty solid record from start to finish, this album is by no means going to be everyone’s cup of tea- and I’m sure that was intentional. This is not a Twisted record and this is not a heavy metal record, but a Dee Snider solo record- full of originality, uplifting lyrics and modern rock influences to create a unique and cohesive sound.
