Who were your musical influences growing up?
They were pretty varied, because I really didn’t know about “genres” per se until I was in high school. When I was a kid, I liked what my parents played for me; The Beach Boys, The Eagles, The Doors, Tom Petty and a lot of 50’s Doo-wop. Stuff like that, which I still listen to even now. Eventually, early 90’s radio rock was what got me into heavier stuff like Metallica, Soundgarden, Danzig, The Cult, GNR, and so on. Between my older sister and a few coffee table books on music, I started getting into a lot of punk rock bands around the time that I was in middle school. The Ramones, The Damned, Social Distortion, The Clash and The Misfits were my favorites. Actually, I was pretty obsessed with The Misfits for a really long time, because I loved horror movies and grew up watching that kind of stuff with my dad, so finding this “cult” band that had songs about Halloween, Vampira, Night of The Living Dead and so on, really stuck with me. So that’s sort of where my roots lay, spread all over the place. Along with the stuff I just mentioned, by the time I was in high school, I had also gotten into artists like Alice Cooper, Ministry, Thin Lizzy, Johnny Cash, Motörhead, etc. Those are still most of my favorite bands, and the majority of what I listen to now. So I guess not a lot has changed for me to be honest.
