After 35 years, it’s safe to say Night Ranger is still rocking at full force upon the release of their 12th studio album Don’t Let Up. This album screams classic Night Ranger- full of vocal harmonies and catchy melodies and hooks which bring a taste of the 80’s into 2017.
Opening Don’t Let Up is the favorable “Somehow Someway”, a very old school Night Ranger sounding track which starts the record out strong. The album has a great range of songs, from the quick moving title track matched with the mellower tempoed tracks like “We Can Work It Out” and “Nothing Left of Yesterday” which starts out slow before building up to an upbeat, catchy group chorus. Night Ranger has their hard rock sound formulated to a tee. “Won’t Be Your Fool Again” is a blues based track, which is seemingly becoming more and more apparent in hard rock records of today. Jack Blades and Kelly Keagy do a phenomenal job, as they always have, with their alternating vocal duties allowing both members to showcase their abilities. Don’t Let Up also features the introduction of guitarist Keri Kelli as this is his first studio album he’s recorded with Night Ranger- and he is more than welcome. Having Kelli added to the mix, him and Brad Gillis create an unstoppable dueling guitar sound.
As mentioned earlier, Don’t Let Up provides listeners with the best that melodic hard rock has to offer; catchy hooks, exceptional vocal harmonies and an overall hard hitting rock and roll sound. Night Ranger hasn’t missed a beat in the past 35 years and the release of Don’t Let Up shows that they won’t be anytime soon.
