Following the release of their debut album Kill ‘Em All, on July 27th, 1984 thrash metal royalty Metallica released their second album Ride the Lightning. The album was originally released under the independent label Megaforce Records but soon after it’s release Metallica was signed by Elektra Records for a multi-year contract and the album was reissued. The album holds the fifth spot on IGN’s “Top 25 Metal Albums” list, as well as solidified Metallica’s place in the world of heavy metal as it received an abundance of positive reviews. Ride the Lightning has been certified 6x platinum in the United States, holds gold status in the UK, and is platinum in Canada as well as Australia. The album is 47 minutes and 23 seconds of pure thrash metal brilliance, and most definitely helped pave the way for Metallica’s success.
