Powerhouse duo Tracii Guns and Phil Lewis have teamed up once again to produce what could be considered some of their best material. With help from a stellar rhythm section consisting of Shane Fitzgibbon (drums), Michael Grant (guitar) and Johnny Martin (bass), L.A. Guns’ latest release The Missing Peace stands out as one of 2017’s premier rock records.
Not only is The Missing Peace notable for the quality of its content, but because it is the first record to feature both Guns and Lewis in the last 15 years- making it long awaited and highly desired. The band proves to fans that The Missing Peace was worth the wait; containing 12 tracks (13 on the Japanese release), this album has a great balance between hard hitting and slower, ballad-esque type songs. The first single released from the album, “Speed”, is a complete standout track and one of the best hard rock songs to be released this year. The song is true to its title- fast, in your face, and leaving you wanting more. Having already seen the ‘reunion’ live, the onstage chemistry and energy between all the band members is unmatched. What is even better is that the same energy/chemistry produced in a live setting is replicated on this studio album- not an easy feat, but crucial to creating a unique listening experience for fans.
L.A. Guns had their fair share of hits during the explosion of hard rock in the 80’s, but there are tracks from The Missing Peace that hold up to, if not surpass those hits. L.A. Guns created a perfectly modern album with doses of their classic sound that depict their growth both as individual musicians and as a band. Guns and Lewis provide the quintessential L.A. Guns sound- while Grant, Fitzgibbon and Martin bring a fresh attitude and new talent to the band; ultimately resulting in one of the best, most consistent rock records of the year.
